Trigg County High School will offer three FAFSA workshops in October. Workshops will be offered on Tuesday, Oct. 3; Tuesday, October 17; and Monday, Oct. 23. All workshops will take place in the high school from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
High school seniors and their parents are encouraged to visit during any portion of the day to get assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Representatives from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), Hopkinsville Community College financial aid office and Murray State University financial aid office will be on hand to assist students and parents.
For students to be eligible to receive federal and state financial aid for college they must complete the FAFSA. The Rotary Club of Cadiz also requires students to complete the FAFSA by Oct. 31 to be eligible for a Rotary scholarship. The 2018/2019 FAFSA goes live on www.fafsa.ed.gov at 12 a.m. on October 1.
“We always encourage seniors to do the FAFSA on Oct. 1 or as soon as possible,” said Cammie Evans, College & Career Counselor with Trigg County Public Schools. “There is a state grant that typically runs out at the end of October, so students need to complete the FAFSA as early as possible in order to get the most financial aid.”
Students and parents will use their 2016 tax return to complete the 2018/2019 FAFSA. They should take their tax return and W2s to the workshop.
Participants should allow 30 to 60 minutes to complete the FAFSA. If students or parents need assistance completing the FAFSA and are unable to attend one of the workshops, they may schedule an appointment with Mrs. Evans by contacting her at 270-522-2740 or email@example.com.
